Demü is so honored to be participating in a remarkable event entirely put on by an absolutely amazing young 13 year old woman! Kate Reeves, the creator of Fashion for Funds, has brought 4 designers together to showcase their newest collections and help raise 10,000$ for Rogers House.

"On January 22nd professional models will once again strut their stuff on the runway at the Glebe Community Centre in support of Roger’s House. Four local designers have volunteered their clothes and time for the cause this year. The event will be emceed by Mr. Max Keeping." - OttawaStart.com

As 2011 has come to an end, it only means one thing: December 21, 2012 is right around the corner! That date marks the end of the Mayan calendar, and of course, the end of the world as we know it. But don't be alarmed Demu Junkies, we PROMISE to be hanging around long after that! In the meantime, and to mark the arrival of 2012, we've decided to add a little extra content to the Demu Bugle. This new content, dubbed "Demu Culture" will give you insight on our lighter side: the funny, stupid, hilarious, inspiring, random, quirky Demu. December has been absolute chaos for us ! From showroom renovations, to many product launches, new employees, an amazing amount of orders from our online store and so much more that we cant even talk about! In the midst of it all, we wanted to take a few minutes to say Happy Holidays to everyone!

We recently attended the Ottawa Life Magazine Christmas party which was so much fun and a great little break for us! A mini fashion show, great music, open bar, mash potato martinis and some amazing friends definitely made it a wonderful evening !

One of our favourite spots to visit when we are in toronto is Silver Snail comics. Its a little hidden gem on Queen Street in the heart of downtown. When it comes to wicked awesome nerd gear, toys and memorabilia Silver Snail is the place to be! The store is packed with comic books of all kinds, figurines big and small, they even have a life-sized Watchmen window display.

We actually just learned that we have a Silver Snail comics in Ottawa. You can find them at 391 Bank Street (Hopefully the store is as sweet as the one in Toronto!)

Superhero Angels

Younger brands often receive a lot of different feedback, comments and questions when they think out of the box. When this happens, as a designer or owner, you cant help but wonder..."am I on the right track?"

This year's Victoria's Secret fashion show we got one big "YES!"

From the opening song "You make me wanna die"-by The Pretty Reckless to the badass superhero theme we were watching the show smiling from ear to ear.

It really is a great feeling when you get the "ok" from the big dogs once in a while, especially when you know you did it first !

This years VS show broke records with its amount of viewers. In our opinion, it was definitely the best show ever! The crazy themes and outstanding performances took the show to a whole new level!

This past weekend, we took a quick hop over to visit Ottawa's cool cousin.. Toronto. With Demu continuously growing , we find it incredibly important to keep up with the personal aspect and always make sure buyers and store owners get the chance to meet us and talk in person!

We ended up mixing some business with a lot of pleasure! (Which is usually the case)

The industry is a lot of hard work and requires constant grinding at all hours and days of the week. That being said, this allows for ample opportunity to travel, meet new people and see great things!

We always make it a point to explore the cities we visit. The Wine and Food show made its way over to Toronto last weekend and we definitely followed that wave!

The event was huge, there were an insane amount of people and the event was completely sold out.

However, there was a total lack of food and drink variety. We literally zoomed through the entire show in a hour and a half. Toronto usually trumps us in a lot of avenues, but Ottawa definitely takes the cake when it comes to Wine and Food shows! Boom!

Xbox 360 just opened a store consisting of pop up living rooms fully equipped with xbox 360s kinects and huge tvs. They had an awesome event while we were there! Awesome Dj , Crazy huge kinect parties and free cotton candy it was a blast!

During the trip down to Toronto, we heard about the Santa Claus Parade on the radio. We had no idea it was that weekend, neither of us had ever seen it so we definitely wanted to see what all the noise was about. We sat at a great Starbucks on Queen St and planned on our route for the parade.

Every single float in the parade was amazing and way better than I had ever imagined.

Hasbro, Mother Goose, Happy Feet, Mario and of course Santa all made their way through the streets of downtown Toronto.

Being a female tourist during the winter months can be tough! A lot of walking and cold weather doesn't exactly leave much room for fashion right? Wrong!

Heres my take on comfortable and warm fashion!

The Wine and Food Show

This past weekend we headed down to the new Ottawa Convention Centre with some great friends to the Wine and Food Show. This has become an annual {and very successful }tradition in Ottawa.

We tried so many delicious drinks and snacks from restaurants and chefs from all over.

Highlights included: Bethenny Frankel's Skinny Girl cocktails which have never been seen in Ottawa before as well as Celebrity TV food entertainer Bob Blumer.

We saw, ate and drank so many different things that night we had to come up with some sort of system. So without further delay...

Our personal picks of the Night

Best Wine : The Magician (recommended by Steph K of KOWP at the Niagra Region Booth

Best Dessert: Rochef Blueberry chocolates (served in mini-martini glasses) coupled with an aged port

Best Cocktail: The Blood Orange margarita by the Amazing bartenders at Lago !

Best Food: Smoked Sashimi Salmon on toast by the Pelican Fishery {To die for!}

Horourable mentions go to Milestone's popular Mojitos, Steak's Chilli-infused Caesars
and Fat Tuesday's Oysters.

The event was overall a wonderful experience, we highly recommend checking it out!

We recently took a night off to check out the new Happy Madison flick, Jack and Jill. Despite the awful reviews from critics, we absolutely loved the movie. Our cheeks hurt by the end from all the laughing! It was completely full of awesome cameos, and we couldn't get enough Pacino !

We definitely suggest seeing the comedy and taking a break from all the god-awful scary movies out *cough* Paranormal Activity 3*.

It's that amazing time of year again! The Ottawa Wine and Food festival has arrived. This year, the show will be held at the new Ottawa Convention Centre in the heart of downtown (which in our opinion, is so much more exciting.) This year, The Wine and Food Festival is expected to be bigger, better and just way more awesome then previous years.

The event opens Tomorrow (wednesday November 9 at 6:30 and runs until Sunday evening.

The entire Demu team will be attending (in full force) and we want to extend an invitation to two lucky Demu junkies!!

Well, PopChampagneBlog.com is at the top of our bookmarks! This blog definitely stands out as one of Ottawa's top blogs. From incredible DIYs to amazing event coverage and of course..all things Fashion, Popchampagne does it all and with some sass. We cant get enough!
She can be feisty but she's actually very sweet and thoughtful. Julie brought a Jelly Belly Cupcake to our booth his past season at Ottawa fashion week as a"first time at OFW gift".
Julie was recently featured in an article covering the life of Ottawa Bloggers in the Ottawa Citizen.She explains how she got her start, her most prized possession and Ottawa fashion finds.

This season at Ottawa Fashion Week, the models ripped the runway in a little less clothing than other seasons, and no one was complaining. Ottawa talent, Amber Watkins, was added to the SS2012 lineup for the increasingly popular OFW. Absolutely stunning models showed off Amber's newest collection, which was all inspired by the oh so iconic ideal female, the Bond girl. The gorgeous swimwear collection was embellished with unique feathers and more by Pica Jewellery. The designers paired the very appropriate Demu gold mushroom pouch and white fox tail into with a black and gold high waisted bikini. So perfect!

We want to say a special thank you to the designers for allowing Demu to accompany them down the OFW runway!

Fur Fur Fur! and a Giveaway!

This fall is all about FUR! Our designer, Angie, has shared her tips on how to accessorize your Demu pieces for the cooler months approaching!

AND we are sending one lucky Demu junkie some shopping money!

Natural colors are so in this fall. Pair a white or black Demu burnout tank with a neutral fur. Either a fur vest or jacket would be perfect. Tie the outfit together with a pair of beige booties, skinny multi-wrap leather belt {over the vest } and a great pair of oversized sunnies.

Black will always be timeless. A black fur jacket and leather leggings paired with a Black Abbey Road Beatles Tunic would be the ideal fall outfit. A great spiked mushroom pouch and some black heels would punch up the outfit for that head turning effect every girl secretly strives for.

Vinylmation Obsession

On our recent adventure to Disney World (Yes...Disney World..We realize we are like large children) We got in touch with our inner nerds when we discovered Vinylmation. Remember Pogs and Pokemon cards? Well this is similar...but WAY COOLER!

Vinylmation figures are created by Disney designers and sold only at Disney World and Disney Stores. All the toys have a common shape of Mickey Mouse but are all completely unique by theme, colours, design..etc

Whats the catch? Well....Vinylamtion is basically like playing roulette, but without an age limit and alot less disapointment!

Almost all Vinylmations are sold in a sealed box,

The purchaser does not know which figure they are buying until they have opened it....And this is where it gets fun!

Each figure belongs to a series and all of the figures in a series are printed on the packaging for that series and the series comes in a large box . Each series has one unknown figure, termed the chaser.

What do you do if you get one twice you ask?

Well...In Disney, you can trade your Vinylmation in the store or with other people in the park ( no not just little kids... its actually mostly adults that are hooked on these)

We arrived in Disney with no clue what these things were and left with over 50 little mickey shaped toys.

Ottawa Fashion Week in a Nutshell

Ottawa Fashion Week was a crazy good time this season! We made so many new friends and got to meet some incredible new people as well as hung out with a few old buddies.

Demu had a wicked awesome booth in the Marketplace this season and we couldn't have been happier with the response we got from the crowd! People loved the new mushroom pouches! So much so that we pretty much sold out and had to go right back into production as soon as fashion week ended.
So, not to worry, all the styles you have been asking about will each be posted on the online store!

Demu also made its first debut down the OFW runway! Our great and incredibly talented friend Amber Watkins accessorized her bathers with the Demu Gold Mushroom Pouch and white fox tail.

Demu will be at Ottawa Fashion Week

Ottawa Fashion Week has come so far since its first appearance six seasons ago. Attendance grows every year and the venues just get better and better. This year, the show will be a the new Ottawa Convention Centre.

First, some necessary information: Ottawa Fashion Week isn't really a "full week" unless you count the pre-party, launch party and after parties. For the people who just want the fashion, Thursday September 29th to October 1st are when the runway shows take place. The doors open at 4pm and the last show goes until 9:30pm

OFW doesnt only include great runway shows by awesome designers. Throughout the 3 days, there will be many live performances as well as a full blown marketplace.

Hallelujah ! Ottawa has finally been put on the map for fashionable shoes! The owners of Schad and Schad Blu recently opened their third store on Sussex, Wolf & Zed.

The new shop caters to both men and women with a taste for higher end goods.

The shop itself is something completely new to Ottawa. We seem to have been lacking in shops with character. The rustic brick wall, extra large space and exposed ductwork creates that desired "boutique" feel we all love and allows for a less overwhelming experience.

We were very impressed by how busy the shop actually was this weekend, shoppers seemed to really love the new Wolf & Zed shop as well as all the shoes and many accessories they carry.

On September 8th, Vogue will throw its after-hours shopping extravaganza, Fashion's Night Out.

Despite not being HUGE fans of Glee, we thought the entire cast was oozing with charisma in this video. After jumping into a mostly design based business almost 2 years ago now, we realized very quickly that sketching on scraps of paper and scanning sketch pads would no longer suffice. We had to find a way to produce a perfectly clear image directly on the computer. Having the least amount of steps between the process of designers artwork all the way to the final printed image to ensure the integrity of the initial design.

So for the past two years I have been sketching on my Toshiba tablet laptop which has been great, but technology is evolving....

The latest and most professional tool on the market is the Wacom Cintiq 21UX. Used by video game designers, artists, fashion designers, architects and even the people at Disney and Pixar, the tablet accompanied by a 27" iMac is definitely any artist newest dream toy.

Ogilvy coming back to Ottawa?

We spent alot of time in the Byward Market in Downtown Ottawa this long weekend and got wind of some potentially exciting news. Obviously we werent going to keep it to ourselves.

According to sources at 90 George [ luxury condos across from The Rideau Centre] the top two floors of the original Ogilvy building are set to reopen for business in the near future. The rumor is that a suspended overpass filled with shops will cover the length of the Rideau centre parking lot where the bus stops are on Rideau street and connect to the Ogilvy building.

The three first floors of the old Ogilvy's , by law, must remain untouched as the building is considered a heritage site. However, the two top floors are two be demolished and made into a high end shopping mall.

Whatever you do, Please Fix this Fugly little building !

"Council voted to accept the recommendations of its planning and development committee over the demolition of Ogilvy's, a heritage site located at 162 Rideau Street.The city mandated that the building's facade, facing Rideau Street and Nicholas Street, be retained to a height of three storeys, as part of the expansion plan by Viking Rideau, which owns the shopping centre, if the move is financially and technically feasible."- Ottawa Business Journal

In our search to find out if the news was acutally factual, we found out that the Rideau Centre building itself will also be expanding.

"Rideau Centre spokeswoman Cindy VanBuskirk said the application at City Hall included space for 25 to 30 new stores, including a couple of large stores, and a restaurant. The expansion will involve two floors, a third mezzanine level, and an underground two-level parking garage." -Ottawa Citizen

Now the exciting part..... As we have seen in Montreal, Ogilvy's is not your average shopping mall. Typically housing names such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Burberry, Tiffany & Co. and many more high end boutiques. Could this mean Ottawa is finally getting the fashion facelift everyone has been waiting for?

Steak and Stilettos

Last week AMH style hosted "Steak and Stilettos" at Steak Restaurant on Clarence in the Byward Market. Ottawa's trendsetters enjoyed the fine food and drinks while watching the fashion show and shopping in the marketplace set up in the restaurant. We tried the 4 for 4 menu at Steak, 4 cocktails and 4 appetizers for 50$...perfect for patio season! We loved Steak's fashion-inspired cocktails, our favorites were the Louis Vuitton, the Louboutin and the Cucumber Collins.

Crazy . Stupid . Love

Cal Weaver's (Steve Carell) life becomes unraveled when he learns that his wife wants a divorce. He spends his single nights at the local bar where he meets womanizer, Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). In the beginning, Gosling's character struck a very similar resemblance to the role Will Smith played in Hitch.

Cal Weaver gets fully made over and becomes Palmer's protege.... And this is where the CRAZY begins.

The 40 something father starts picking up women left and right and totally alters the viewers perception of him as the nerdy, sneaker wearing average Joe he once was.

I love how Hollywood is always able to do this. Somewhere in between hair and makeup and the role played in the movie, we change our view of an actor in an instant.

Did anyone know who Bradley Cooper was before The Hangover? He was acutally the jerk, Sak, in Wedding Crashers. Not so much the suave playboy we now know. Angelina Jolie wasnt always the sexy vixen we see her as today. She used to be the weird, gothic, tatoo-covered girl with the big lips who was dating Billy Bob Thorton.

I think the best example of all is the star of Crazy Stupid Love, Ryan Gosling.

Way before the Notebook, this 10 pack bearing Canadian stud use to be the skinny, nerdy, shit-disturber best friend on Breaker High.

This should just go to show everyone...In Hollywood, things aren't always as they seem.

That being said, the movie was actually really good. It was the perfect mix of sappy love story, halarious comedy and feel-good flick!

A funky top paired with a cute vest gives that rocker edge. Add some over-sized sunnies and a small cross-body bag and you are ready to go! Make sure to wear comfy shoes (comfy does not equal ugly ) , some ballet flats, kitten heel peep toes, or rider boots like I did which will be perfect for fall.

With the crazy heat this summer I sported a simple yellow dress when I attended the Katy Perry Concert. Make it fun with some gladiator sandals and a fun bag!

Work Casual

I refuse to wear a pencil skirt and a blazer to work. If you have a job that allows you the freedom to wear what you want, do it! Make sure to remain professional by adding a lightweight jacket.

Comic-Con in San Diego

Nerds all over united last week for Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego. The event wrapped up Sunday after four days of comic books, costumes, superheroes, celebrity appearances as well as TV and movie previews.

A new look at the latest Twilight film: Breaking Dawn, HBO's Game of Thrones, the stars of Cowboys & Aliens and Peter Jackson's surprise appearance alongside Steven Spielberg were definitely some of the best moments of the 42nd annual pop-culture festival.

More than 120,000 people attended the sold-out event at the San Diego Convention Center, which spilled over into downtown San Diego.

Inside the convention center, comic books, toys and crazy displays previewing upcoming games, movies and TV shows packed the exhibition floor while panels for various artists and films went nonstop in dozens of ballrooms and meeting halls.

Central Condominiums Celebrates

Yesterday, new home owners and young professionals of Ottawa gathered under the tent and sales center at Central.

Central Condominiums are the newest project by Urban Capital, the same people that developed the Mondrian and East Market in Ottawa. The 9 storey condo buildings will be located at Bank St and Gladstone, joining the Glebe and the downtown core together.

Phase 1 will begin occupancy this Fall and Phase 2 is just about to start construction.

The event was incredibly successful, a surprisingly large amount of people showed up. They all mingled into the night sipping the signature blue martinis and enjoying the delicious food provided by Whalesbone (soon to be neighbors of central).

Runway Shows Vs Trade Shows

People always seem to be buzzing about New York and Paris Fashion Week and the infamous runway shows designers put on. There is so much more to the fashion industry than just the sparkly and glamorous front rows of fashion shows.

Trade shows are definitely our favorite events to attend. The Bread and Butter Tradeshow in Berlin is hands down the show of all shows of the year! Rather than runways, each brand showcases their latest product in their own unique booth. Some booths have open bars, food, massive DJ booths and even a crazy huge wall of denim.

The Bread and Butter show is huge! The entire show takes about 3 days to complete and fills the entire Templehoff Airport AND tarmac!!

The B&B show was this past week in Berlin and we hope everyone had an amazing time!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin is right before Paris fashion week in the Summer. We checked out the runway shows as well as the Bread and Butter show. Although celebs such as Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester and Sienna Miller attended the fashion shows we still preferred the tradeshows.

Your opinion of clothing shouldn't differ because someone famous is wearing it.

Buy clothes based on the fact that you like them not because a celebrity was paid to.

Demü's Guide To : REAL BEAUTY !

Katy Perry's pre-photoshopped Rolling Stone cover has just surfaced this week and got us wondering....

"What the Hell is wrong with the world today!?"

In our opinion, the fashion, beauty, music and film industries are rewinding us back to a time when women had to wear crazy tight corsets, huge wigs and tons of makeup to be considered "beautiful".

Nowadays we have the microwave version of this : Photoshop.

We've included some before and after photoshop shots from magazine covers, runways and more.

The worst part about all these images, is that the model usually looked more natural, beautiful and all around more human before!

Demü will be stamping each photo from the upcoming campaign with a "No Photoshop" seal of approval.

Models aren't selected based on their height or waist size, they are chosen based on their level of confidence.
